Black Star x HBCU partner at BODYARMOR Creators Cup

Updated: Nov 15

Black Star recently participated in the BODYARMOR Creators Cup, a 3v3 soccer tournament in Miami that brought together more than 30 creators and influencers.

The list of participants included the likes of FIFA World Cup and NFL Pro Bowl participants, as well as digital creators and soccer freestylers. Headlining the event was the attendance of Landon Donovan, Tim Howard (more on him in a bit), and football-player-turned-soccer-lover, Chad Ochocinco.

The event was an important one for Black Star to attend—not only for exposure (check out this recap video from 433 with nearly 5 million views), but also to soft launch an initiative to amplify HBCU soccer programs and student athletes that we'll be unveiling in the remainder of 2024 and into 2025. Stay tuned!

Meet the Black Star x HBCU team

Leading the line for the squad was the legendary Tim Howard, whose résumé is unmatched. Major League Soccer. English Premier League. Three-time FIFA Men's World Cup player for the U.S. Men's National Team. Olympic soccer and English Premier League commentator for NBC Sports. Newly a minority owner for the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash.

It was an honor having someone with such tremendous on- and off-field experience on our team—big thank you to Tim for joining us.

Joining Tim were three collegiate soccer players from two HBCU schools. Donny Joshua, a Howard University men's soccer program alum, as well as Mallory Pastorious and Kiara Kallie from the Florida Memorial University women's soccer team.

Also on the squad were two content creators in Raheem Taylor-Parkes and Elischa Edouard, each with playing experience of their own. Check out Taylor-Parkes' Drippin' or Trippin' series below.

Although our squad didn't come out on top, we had an incredible time in Miami. Big shout out to BODYARMOR for hosting the event and letting Black Star shine!
